How Much Do X-Rays Cost?

Even for people with health insurance, X-rays can be costly. Although some insurance plans will totally cover them, others will require patients to pay a certain amount—often in the $10 to $50 range. For patients without health insurance, X-rays may cost more than $1,000 a session.

More advanced types of X-rays, like computerized tomography (CT) scans or fluoroscopies, or more specialized shots, such as of the cardiovascular system, will quickly rise into the range of several thousand dollars.

While it might cost only $100 to have your finger X-ray'ed, it could cost anywhere from $350 to $3,000 for the hip or pelvic region. Often, prices rise dramatically because more than one view is required to make an accurate diagnosis. Talk to your provider about any discounts they might provide, and don’t forget to shop around if you have the opportunity!
