How Do You Get Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are small, brown insects that live on the blood of humans or animals. As adults, they are about the size of an apple seed and can be very difficult to see with the naked eye. So, where do they come from?

If you have bed bugs or have had them in the past, this does not mean that your home is dirty. You are as likely to find bed bugs in a filthy hotel room as you are to find them inside an immaculate home. This is because bed bugs’ flattened bodies make it easy for them to pass through tiny spaces as small as the width of a credit card. They can enter your home undetected through luggage, clothing, used beds, furniture, or other ways.

Bed bugs do not have nests like other insects—rather, they will usually initially hide within a mattress, box spring, or bed frame where they have easy access to bite people during the night. But over time, they can easily spread to other places throughout the bedroom, into nearby rooms, and even into other apartments.
