The Success Rate of Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination involves directly placing sperm into a woman’s reproductive tract. People commonly choose this fertility option for several reasons. If you and your partner are struggling with infertility, or if you are using donor sperm for any reason, then artificial insemination is usually the first method your doctor will recommend. The success rate for artificial insemination will vary depending on which type you choose, your age, as well as which fertility problems you or your partner are struggling with.

The percentage of couples who become pregnant after one cycle of intrauterine insemination (the most popular type of artificial insemination) is between 10% and 20%. For women over 35, taking ovulation-inducting fertility medications can also increase the chance of success.

Most couples attempt artificial insemination multiple times before becoming pregnant. It is recommended that if it does not work on the first time, you should try at least three to six times before moving on to more complicated and expensive methods.
