Are There Natural Cures for Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (or ED for short) is not an unusual fear for men. Although it can be embarrassing to talk about, even with your doctor, it’s not uncommon. Additionally, it can be indicative of underlying health issues that may need to be addressed.

While there are a number of treatment options, many of these involve prescription medications and other chemical solutions. And some men find that once they have utilized a pill for this particular problem, there’s no going back.

A few lifestyle changes may be effective in improving erectile dysfunction. Putting down the cigarettes can help improve blood flow—yes, even down there! Excessive drinking or drug use can also influence erectile dysfunction. Regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight are other useful, at-home helpers, as well. High amounts of stress or strained relationships can also make achieving or maintaining an erection more difficult, so try to relax as much as possible.

Panax ginseng and rhodiola rhosea are two natural ingredients researchers have found may offer some improvement, as well as zinc, ashwagandha, and gingko—although more study is needed. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) (a naturally occurring hormone) and L-Arginine (an amino acid) also showed efficaciousness in studies. Some men even found acupuncture to be helpful!

Talk to your doctor before you try any natural cures, as some of these may cause adverse reactions, particularly with certain medical conditions, or should not be combined with certain medications or other supplements. While there are all kinds of products on the market promising to help with ED, be extremely careful. Most of these are not approved by any sort of healthcare agency and will be, at best, a waste of money.
