What is the Most Common Cause of Stress?

Something most of us come to understand by the time we are adults is that stress is just a normal part of life. And we have to learn how to manage it or else it can have a negative impact on our health. Everyone experiences stress differently, and some are able to handle it better than others. It’s also believed that a little stress can be good for you, although the causes and responses depend on the person.

There are, however, some common triggers of stress for many people. If you’re aware of what those causes are, it may help you to react better in stressful situations and all together reduce your stress level.

Relationships

Stress is experienced by people of all ages—it can even be experienced at home, triggered by some of the people you are closest to. As a parent you may feel the constant pressure to balance a happy home life while also being a top-performing employee at work; as a child you may feel the pressure to meet your parents expectations while also maintaining an active social life.  Friendships or romantic relationships can also trigger stress if you find yourself fighting frequently, spending too much time with that person, or if a relationships ends.

Life Events

Significant life changes, such as marriage, divorce, a new job, or pregnancy, are all a part of life—and usually produce stress. That’s because these events, even positive ones, bring new responsibilities and expectations that can sometimes feel burdensome.

Unexpected life events, like the death of a loved one or an illness, can lead to sudden, overwhelming stress because you didn’t have time to prepare. These life changes possibly have the biggest impact on your health.
