A very handsome doctor discusses the cost of angioplasty

What Does Angioplasty Cost?

Angioplasty is a minor procedure that treats clogged or narrowed blood vessels and arteries. Blockages are a serious problem, because they can cause abnormal flow of blood throughout the body and to the heart, leading to heart failure or stroke. People at risk for heart attack or heart disease are commonly recommended to undergo this operation.

There are a few different types of angioplasty, and cost will differ depending on the method used. On average, however, an angioplasty without health insurance can cost anywhere from $15,000 to $115,000. With health insurance, the surgery is usually costs anywhere from $5,800 up to $7,000. Keep in mind that costs will also differ from state to state.

What does the price include?

Costs include the procedure itself and the professional fee of the surgeon. Some hospitals, however, do not include the surgeon's cost, which means it is possible you will be billed with an extra invoice. Additionally, the procedure will take place in a surgical room with surgical equipment—and that will be included in costs.

Are there any additional costs?

Tests needed before surgery are considered an extra cost. Common preparation tests include a chest x-ray, an electrocardiogram, and blood tests.

If a stent is placed during angioplasty, this can add between $800 to $3,000 to your total bill, depending on the size and type of stent. The hospital stay following the procedure and follow-up appointments will cost extra as well.
