How Often Can You Donate Blood?

Donating blood could end up saving someone’s life. Blood contains many different components that can help to treat many different injuries and illnesses. Many people enjoy giving blood because it gives them a sense of pride and purpose to know that helping someone in a small way can have such a big impact.

The blood donating process is very quick and easy, lasting about 45 minutes for each session. One donation will involve the donor giving about 10% to 12% of their circulating blood volume. To be eligible to donate blood, you must be between 18 and 60 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds to ensure that you will not experience any adverse side effects and your body will be able to replenish this volume quickly (within 24 hours).

You can donate blood up to four times a year, which is about every 12 weeks. As a general rule, men are eligible to donate blood every three months while females are only able to donate blood every four months. Everyone is required to wait a minimum of 56 days between blood donations.
