Cleanses
There’s no reason you need to spend money on something that your body does naturally. Several of your organs are designed to remove toxins, including your kidneys and liver. If your body doesn’t remove toxins naturally, then it’s a sign of a more significant issue. Not to mention a lot of cleanses use illegal marketing practices, like claiming testimonials that have never happened.

Meal Replacement Shakes
Meal replacement shakes may help you drop the weight quickly, but the moment you switch over to regular food, you’ll gain it back. A proper diet consists of healthy, whole foods, which can be hard to transition to after drinking meal replacement shakes. Additionally, many brands have a ton of sugar. For example, some Slimfast brands have 21 grams of sugar! That’s as much as a KitKat bar.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet
The apple cider vinegar diet may seem like it has few downsides, but it can be bad for you. One of the major problems is that vinegar can damage your teeth unless diluted. That means drinking a tablespoon of vinegar can wear down your enamel and cause cavities. Vinegar can also cause or worsen low potassium levels. Finally, vinegar can alter insulin levels. Those with diabetes should be especially careful about a high vinegar diet.

100-Calorie Snack Packs
Any 100-calorie snack pack may seem like a great deal, but it’s the same product in a smaller size. You’re literally paying for packaging. Instead, purchase the larger version and some sandwich bags. You can then portion as you want in 50- or 100- calorie packs. You’ll also save money in the long run.

Low-Fat Foods
Low-fat foods may seem good for your diet, but they’re usually heavier in sugar to make up for that lack of fat. Trading fat for sugar isn’t a great trade-up since your blood sugar will spike. Over time, this could cause insulin resistance. It can also worsen symptoms in diabetic patients. Studies have also shown that those on low-fat diets lose more weight compared to high-fat diets.

Anything South Beach
Several studies have shown that the South Beach diet doesn’t work long-term, especially for those that aren’t calorie counting. Knowing what you’re eating is the number one way to shed the weight and keeping the weight off.

Obalon Balloon Pill
The Obalon pill is a capsule with a balloon inside that is designed to inflate in the belly. It is designed to help patients feel fuller faster, but there are more risks than benefits. The balloon can get lodged in the stomach. The balloon can also stretch the stomach and esophagus, cause inflammation, ulcers, internal bleeding, and infection. You can portion control without the balloon and avoid the risks.

Waist Trainers
Waist trainers are a take on a classic corset, and there’s a reason those went out of style – they’re dangerous. Wearing them too tightly can cause harmful alterations to your internal organs. They also cannot metabolize fat or release toxins. They’ll decrease food intake because it often feels as if you can’t breathe.

Fat Freezing Procedures or Products
Fat freezing products you can purchase online (and CoolSculpting) aren’t worth the money. Not only are the products costly, but it also requires several treatments in order to see results. Those that do see results lose very little weight, and claim that it’s painful. Expensive and painful? Count us out.

Diet Supplements
Diet supplements are a waste of money. We’re talking about Alli, Slendertone, Hydroxycut, and any other over-the-counter medicine you can get. They can have risky side effects and even cause death if not taken properly – Fen-Phen, anyone? While we’re on the topic, herbal supplements don’t work either. Studies have debunked Garcinia Cambogia.

Calorie Burning Drinks
Calorie burning drinks are drinks that have “negative calories.” These products can be downright dangerous because they contain large amounts of caffeine. While they can be alright for some people, other people can have heart issues and increased blood pressure due to the drink. You can also drink a glass of coffee for a fraction of the cost.

Sauna Tents or Suits
Extremely hot saunas or prolonged sauna use can be dangerous. It works by forcing your body to shed water weight. This could sound good until the risk of dehydration becomes a significant problem. Your body will begin to cling to any water it can and cause you to bloat. That’ll cause weight gain, which is the last thing you want.

Weight Loss Creams
If weight loss were as easy as rubbing cream on yourself, we’d all have a jar. There’s no scientific proof that these creams work, and many of the ingredients cannot cause weight loss when rubbed on the body. Some even use known laxatives when ingested – and that’s the last way anyone wants to lose weight.

Food with Olestra
Olestra was the miracle ingredient that reduces fat without adding sugar – only it wasn’t. Olestra is now known for causing a myriad of adverse side effects including loose stools, abdominal cramps, and leakage. You may save a few grams of fat, but wearing a diaper isn’t a great trade-up.
