Washing your hands is a must for preventing any type of illness, but it's especially important for preventing the accidental transfer of germs to your mouth. Furthermore, you should try to avoid close contact with sick people as much as possible.

You are more likely to develop a sore throat if the air in your home is too dry, and that's why using a humidifier to increase the moisture in the air can help prevent the condition. The ideal humidity level in your home is between 40 and 50 percent. Lower humidity levels can not only cause a sore throat, but they can also irritate your nasal passages. Additionally, you will need to avoid smoking or exposing yourself to secondhand smoke, as studies have shown that people who are exposed to secondhand smoke are more likely to suffer from sore throats.
