Is Deep Vein Thrombosis Deadly?

Although deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is treatable, it can be fatal. There aren’t always symptoms, and the complications that can arise are most definitely deadly. The clot may form in your leg, but eventually it can shake itself loose and move around the blood stream—where it may end up in the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism, characterized by difficulty breathing and chest pain. If you have a clotting disorder, noticed swelling in one or both legs accompanied by a cramping or soreness in the calf, seek medical care immediately.
