Is Cellulite Dangerous?

Cellulite is a condition that is most common in adolescent and adult women that causes dimpled, lumpy flesh to develop on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen. While the appearance of cellulite can be embarrassing, it is not harmful in any way.

There are two different types of fat in your body: subcutaneous fat and visceral fat. Cellulite is a type of subcutaneous fat that resides just below the surface of the skin. Since everyone has subcutaneous fat, even thin people can have cellulite, and it does not pose any sort of health risk. However, visceral fat is the type of fat that is located in the abdominal cavity and surrounds your vital organs. Visceral fat poses more danger for health concerns since it can disrupt your body’s balance of hormones and contribute to the hardening of arteries and raise levels of bad cholesterol.
