How Much Does Periodontal Surgery Cost?

If you have periodontal disease, treatment will depend on the stage and severity of your condition. In some cases, surgery is required to restore supportive gum tissues or bone that has been damaged or lost. There are a few different types of periodontal surgery, and costs will depend on the type of surgery you need.

 Factors That Affect Cost

There are different factors to keep in mind when estimating how much your surgery may cost. These factors include:

  • The type of dental insurance you have
  • Your geographic location
  • The equipment used during the procedure
  • Additional periodontal maintenance procedures

Cost of Surgery

If your tooth root is exposed due to a receding gum line, you will need a gum tissue graft.  This treatment can cost between $600 and $1,200 for one session. The number of sessions you will need depends on how much your gums have receded.

If you need full-mouth periodontal treatment, which can include a number of different procedures such as full-mouth disinfection or pocket depth reduction surgery, then you are looking at something more expensive. The cost for this treatment is $4,000 to $6,000. However, if you have a particularly severe case it can be as much as $8,000 to $10,000.

Dental Insurance

If you have dental insurance, your surgery may be covered, if it is considered medically necessary. Surgeries done for cosmetic reasons are typically not covered by insurance.
