How Do You Treat Sunburn Blisters?

If you’re in the sun for a long period of time without the protection of sunscreen, you can end up with a sunburn. The more severe a sunburn is the more likely you are to develop swelling and sunburn blisters.

A blister is a fluid-filled bubble under your skin. They are actually a protective measure by your body, so you should never pop a blister. It’s a good idea to start treating your sunburn right away in order to help soothe your skin and relieve some of the pain the blisters can cause.

If one does happen to pop on its own, don’t pull off any of the dead skin.  Wash the area carefully, and cover the popped blister with a gauze bandage. This will help prevent infection.

To treat sunburn blisters you have to treat the burn around the blisters as well. Cool showers and baths can help reduce the heat in your skin. Once out of the shower, it’s important to pat yourself dry, leaving some water on your skin. Following a bath or shower, apply moisturizer—this will trap water in you skin and relieve dryness and irritation. Avoid lotions with benzocaine and lidocaine ingredients as they will cause more irritation.
