Lung Cancer
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide. People who smoke have the greatest risk of lung cancer. However, it can also occur in those who have never smoked. Your lungs are two spongy organs in your chest that take in oxygen when you inhale and release carbon dioxide when you exhale.
There typically aren't any signs and symptoms in its earliest stages. Once it advances, signs and symptoms may include a persistent cough, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarseness, weight loss, bone pain, and headache. Looking at this image, you can see where the program took the idea of "spongey" material, used red and blue to color code inhalation and exhalation, and maybe even some trails of gray smoke on the outside.
Migraine
A migraine is a headache that can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on one side of the head. It's often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can last for hours to days, and the pain can be so severe that it interferes with your daily activities.
For some, a warning symptom known as an aura occurs before or with the headache. It can include visual disturbances, like flashes of light or blind spots, or other disturbances, like tingling on one side of the face and difficulty speaking. After an attack, you might feel drained, confused, and washed out for up to a day. AI seems to have latched on to the "aura" side of a migraine, represented by bands of light across the eyes.
COPD
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. It's typically caused by long-term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter, most often from cigarette smoke. People with COPD are at increased risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer, and a variety of other conditions.
Symptoms include shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, chronic cough, mucus production, respiratory infections, lack of energy, weight loss, and swelling in ankles, feet, or legs. The image here certainly portrays the relation to breathing—small tunnels of wispy clouds give you that limited, compact feeling of trying to breathe but having difficulty. The dark colors add to the solemnity of the situation, with brighter colors so close yet so far.
Bronchitis
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the lining of your bronchial tubes, which carry air to and from your lungs. People who have bronchitis often cough up thickened mucus, which can be discolored. Bronchitis may be either acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is very common. Chronic bronchitis is more serious and often caused by smoking.
Symptoms include a cough, mucus production, fatigue, shortness of breath, fever and chills, and chest discomfort. Against a sickly background, this image almost looks humanoid. You can see a rendition of lungs accompanied by plumes of various colors. The reds give off the idea of inflammation, while the blues indicate failure to breathe effectively.
Dizziness
Dizziness is a term used to describe a range of sensations. Those who feel dizzy may feel faint, woozy, weak, or unsteady. Dizziness can create a false sense that you or your surrounding are spinning or moving—this is called vertigo. Dizziness is actually one of the more common reasons adults visit their doctors.
Dizziness may be accompanied by nausea or be so sudden or severe that you need to sit or lie down. It may last seconds or days and may recur. In this AI image, of course, we see a swirling around the head. It also does a good job of representing that "you or your surroundings" may be spinning. There is a small figure within the larger figure's head.
Diabetes
Diabetes comes in type 1 and type 2. Diabetes affects how the body uses blood sugar—or glucose. Glucose is an important source of energy for the cells that make up the muscles and tissues. It's also the brain's main source of fuel. Whichever type you have can lead to excess sugar in the blood, which can lead to serious health problems.
Diabetes symptoms depend on how high your blood sugar is. Some people with type 2 diabetes may not have symptoms. Type 1 symptoms tend to be more sudden and severe. Symptoms include feeling more thirsty than usual, urinating often, weight loss, feeling tired and weak, feeling irritable, blurry vision, slow-healing sores, and getting infections. In this image, we see what looks to be a person with sugar on her mind. There is a buffet that seems to be dripping with a sticky substance which may also represent her deathbed.
Insomnia
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that makes it hard to fall asleep, stay asleep, or causes you to wake up too early and not be able to go back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up. The condition can sap not only your energy level and mood, but also your health, work performance, and quality of life.
The image is pretty straightforward—here we see a person propped up in bed, unable to sleep. Looking into the distance at the moon, we know it is time for sleep, but it won't come. There are multiple pillows mixed in with clouds—the perfect conditions for sleep. Yet, this person may sit there for hours, unable to reach their goal of simple rest.
Anxiety
While occasional anxiety is normal, intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations is not and is considered a disorder. Anxiety disorders often involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes—panic attacks.
Common signs and symptoms include feeling nervous, restless, or tense, having a sense of impending danger, panic, or doom, increased heart rate, hyperventilation, sweating, trembling, weakness, tiredness, trouble concentrating, and even GI problems. In this AI-generated image, you can see the figure is in her own mind, thinking dark, chaotic thoughts. She is clutching her comfortable clothing absent-mindedly. Her thoughts go in a million different directions, tinted by a grayness of what might happen.
Asthma
Asthma is a condition in which your airways narrow and swell. They may produce extra mucus. This can make breathing difficult and trigger coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. For some, it's only a minor nuisance. For others, it can interfere with daily activities and may lead to a life-threatening asthma attack.
Shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, trouble sleeping, and coughing attacks are all signs and symptoms of asthma. Here, we see an AI portal of asthma—giant plumes of smoke/breath that slowly become narrower at the bottom. The colors may represent the different types of symptoms like shortness of breath, wheezing, and coughing.
Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek medical help or miss work. It is a leading cause of disability worldwide. Thankfully, there are things you can do to help prevent or relieve most episodes of back pain. Surgery is rarely needed to treat back pain. However, while back pain is occurring, the symptoms can be debilitating.
Back pain can range from a muscle aching to a shooting, burning, or stabbing sensation. Also, the pain can radiate down a leg. Bending, twisting, lifting, standing, or walking can make it worse. This AI image is abstract, but also concrete. A man has a bolt of lightning/shooting pain going down his back. There seem to be roots extending from his hands, maybe to show he is rooted in spot, unable to twist, bend, or move freely.
Arthritis
Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis causes cartilage to break down, while rheumatoid arthritis is where the immune system attacks the joints, beginning with the lining of joints.
The main symptoms of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which typically worsen with age. There's also swelling, redness, and a decreased range of motion. In some cases, joints may gradually lose their alignment and shape. In this AI image, there are areas on the figure that appear to be representative of damaged cartilage. The hands are also misshapen, showing the joints have lost their alignment and shape.
Depression
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.
More than just a bout of the blues, depression isn't a weakness, and you can't simply "snap out" of it. In this AI image, there is a figure standing in a beautiful location, maybe a simple garden, yet cannot enjoy it. Surrounding the garden is a muted gray aura. The figure is wearing blue, commonly associated with sad feelings, and is staring off into nothing.
Hypertension
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a common condition affecting the body's arteries. If you have high blood pressure, the force of the blood pushing against the artery walls is consistently too high. The heart has to work harder to pump blood. Untreated, it increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other serious health problems.
Most people have no symptoms, even at dangerously high levels of blood pressure. A few people may have headaches, shortness of breath, and nosebleeds. However, these usually don't occur until it's reached a severe or life-threatening stage. This AI image appears to be more abstract. We see what may be a symbolic heart and also an authentic heart. Swipes of color give the feeling of being "pushed outward", consistent with blood pushing on artery walls.
Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is a condition where your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain necessary hormones. There may not be noticeable symptoms in the early stages. However, if left untreated, it can cause a number of health problems like obesity, joint pain, infertility, and heart disease. Problems tend to develop slowly over a number of years.
Signs and symptoms include fatigue, sensitivity to cold, constipation, dry skin, weight gain, muscle weakness, muscle aches, stiffness, painful joints, slowed heart rate, impaired memory, and depression. It is most commonly found in middle-aged and older women. Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the front of the neck. In this AI image, the gland looks very much like a literal butterfly. And although it is beautiful, the woman seems to have a tear running down her cheek, indicating she is suffering.
