Can Chronic Fatigue Be Cured Completely?

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a condition that is characterized by severe fatigue or exhaust that does not get better with rest. The disorder cannot be explained by an underlying medication condition.

There is no specific cure for CFS. Therefore, treating the condition focuses on providing relief from symptoms. There are different types of treatments that are available for managing the disorder and relieving symptoms.

Medications

Symptom relief may include certain medications including:

  • Antidepressants: Many who experience chronic fatigue also experience depression. Because of this, treating depression can make it easier to manage the problems caused by CHS. Low doses of some antidepressants also can help with better sleep and relieve pain.
  • Sleeping pills: For people who have trouble sleeping, your doctor may prescribe sleep aids.

Psychological Counseling

A counselor can help you cope and function with some of the limitations that CHS causes. Counseling can also help you feel more in control of your life, which can significantly improve your outlook.

Exercise

A physical therapist will be able to identify the types of exercise that you can do. If you are inactive, you may begin with range-of-motion and stretching exercises for a few minutes a day. You will slowly increase the intensity of your exercise routine over time. Your strength and endurance will improve with this gradual increase.
