Can Cellulite Actually Be Treated?

The appearance of dimpled, lumpy flesh on the thighs, hips, abdomen, and buttocks is referred to as cellulite, and it most common among women. Though cellulite is not a threat to your health, it can be unattractive, which is why many people search for ways to get rid of it. Unfortunately, most cellulite treatments advertise remarkable results without much research to back up their claims. If you do find a cellulite treatment that seems to work, it likely won’t last for very long. Here are some steps you can take to improve the appearance of your cellulite, some cellutlite remedies, as well as some of the advertised treatment options.

Lose Weight

Losing weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly is one of the most effective ways to treat cellulite. This is because getting rid of excess fat and strengthening your muscles will help to improve the appearance of the lumpy and dimpled skin. However, even though cellulite will be less noticeable when you lose weight, it will never go away completely.

Liposuction

This is a procedure that involves a surgeon inserting a narrow tube under your skin using tiny incisions in order to suction out fat cells. Some people try liposuction as a way to get rid of cellulite; however, even though liposuction can help to reshape your body, it will not remove cellulite. In fact, sometimes it can even make the appearance of cellulite look even worse than before.

Topical Creams

There are some creams and ointments that have been shown to improve the appearance of cellulite. One example is a twice daily application of 0.3% retinol cream that has been shown to improve the appearance of cellulite after six months. There are other creams that contain a variety of vitamins, minerals, herbal extracts, and antioxidants that are marketed as treatments for cellulite. However, there are currently no studies that prove that the use of these types of creams by themselves will improve the appearance of cellulite at all.

Laser Therapy

One of the best options for treating cellulite currently is using lasers and radiofrequency systems. This could involve any combination of tissue massage, radiofrequency technology, infrared light, or diode laser energy to improve the appearance of cellulite. This treatment option usually requires a series of treatments to be effective, and the results will typically last up to six months.

Massage Therapy

There are some types of treatment for cellulite that are based on the concept that increasing the blood flow using vigorous massages will help to remove the toxins and reduce the excess fluid in areas prone to cellulite. Endermologie is a method that uses a hand-held machine to knead the skin between rollers. After these types of treatments, you may see a slight improvement in the appearance of your cellulite; however, these positive results are usually very short-lived.

Mesotherapy

This is a type of treatment that involves injecting a solution under the skin that is a combination of aminophylline, hormones, enzymes, herbal extracts, vitamins, and minerals. The downside to this treatment method is that it can lead to several different unwanted side effects, such as infection, rashes, and bumpy or uneven skin.
