Acne Prevention

If you're currently dealing with acne or just afraid of a breakout, you might be curious about the best ways to prevent acne flare-ups. Dealing with a breakout can be incredibly frustrating. No sooner do you get rid of one pimple than another one surfaces. There are, however, a lot of ways for you to prevent acne so that it does not affect your everyday life.

External Factors

Preventing acne relies on a variety of different things. Some of these factors are internal, such as the foods you're eating or even the medication that you're taking. External factors are normally what cause acne, such as sleeping on dirty sheets or touching your face too often.

Some key external factors that cause acne include not washing your face properly, being too rough with your skin, and touching your face throughout the day. Remember that acne is actually an inflammation on the skin caused by bacteria. As with any inflammation, it can become aggravated if it is constantly touched or rubbed throughout the day. Preventing acne from worsening requires you to get out of the habit of picking at your skin.

Another external factor to address is the use of soiled linens. It might be a good idea for you to get into a routine of washing pillowcases and towels more often. If you notice that you use the same towel for two or three weeks at a time and your acne acts up, start using a fresh towel after every other shower. This ensures that acne-causing bacteria are not clinging to the dirty fabric. Switching to a milder laundry detergent can also help to prevent flare-ups that are caused by excessively fragrant and harsh soaps.

Internal Factors

With internal factors, you need to take a few things into consideration. Many women and teenage girls tend to get hormonal acne because of hormone fluctuations throughout the month. This is very normal and should be expected. Many women talk to their doctors about medications can help regulate hormones. Diet is another internal factor that may cause acne. If you notice that you are still breaking out after making external changes to your lifestyle, it could be your diet. Some people recommend removing dairy and processed foods from your daily meals.
