Dandruff Remedies

Dandruff is a condition that causes the scalp to flake. While it’s relatively harmless, it’s often embarrassing for people who suffer from it. Unfortunately, since it’s often accompanied by itching, it may also be very uncomfortable. Luckily, there are several inexpensive, natural remedies you can perform at home that will help you get rid of it quickly.

Baking Soda

Substituting baking soda for shampoo is a cheap, effective way to get rid of dandruff. Simply massage a small handful into your scalp, rub it vigorously for a minute or two and then rinse with warm water. Baking soda can dry your hair out, so apply conditioner after using it. If it seems to make your hair feel dry, you may only want to use it every three or four days. After a few weeks, your hair should be softer, and you should notice a visible decrease in the amount of dandruff.

Aspirin

Aspirin is a drug that people use to treat a number of maladies, and it may also help get rid of your dandruff. Just crush two tablets into a fine powder and add to your normal shampoo. Let the mixture sit for two minutes, and then rinse your hair thoroughly. After rinsing, wash and condition your hair like you normally would.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil has been shown in several studies to help get rid of dandruff. While many shampoos contain tea tree oil, you can also buy the oil by itself, and add a few drops to your shampoo. Simply pour the amount of shampoo you normally use into your hand. Then use a dropper to add one to two drops of tea tree oil to your shampoo. Blend the oil and shampoo together, and use the mixture to wash your hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Another ingredient you may have sitting in your kitchen that can help get rid of your dandruff is apple cider vinegar. While it’s been shown to be effective, this natural remedy does takes a little longer than other treatments. Combine a quarter cup of vinegar with a quarter cup of water. Spritz this mixture on your hair, then wrap your hair in a towel. Wear the towel for fifteen minutes. After you remove the towel, wash and condition your hair.
